Fire vehicles are expensive. How can your community obtain a grant to fund a vehicle purchase? The Butte Valley (CA) FPD used a 2002 AFG Grant for $195,777 to purchase this International/KME 4X4 Type III Engine with 750 GPM pump and 500 gallon tank. NEW! Assistance to Firefighters Grant Update After speaking with industry insiders this week (6/23/11) I was disaapointed to hear that the AFG process is changing significantly, which will make it more difficult to apply for and win grants this year. Do not give up! It may be time for some departments to break down and hire a grant writer. Don't have the money? A quick check this week showed the cost of a professional grant writer at less than $1,000 for a reputable, experienced grant writer. The cost of a grant writer is typically reimburseable on AFG and other grant, and if you spend $750 and win a $200,000 grant, you are talking less than 1% of your cost on the return.
